Developing a Project Management Office(PMO):
In todays challenging, resource-constrained work environment many
leading companies are working to establish formal project management processes
that will maximize their capability to deliver work initiatives, both internal
and external, on time, within budget, and to an agreed upon level of quality.
Part of the ability to execute better, faster, and cheaper comes from the
organizations implementation of common processes and practices across
the entire organization. This approach minimizes the required learning curve
for the project manager and the team members as they transition from one
project toanother. The larger the organization gets, and the more projects
that are in work at one time, the more difficult and the more important
it becomes to maintain this organizational consistency. Without it, the
full value of implementing a common project management methodology cannot
be achieved. In most companies the organization that is responsible for
the various aspects of project management methodologies is referred generically
as the Project Office. In this class we will examine the key components
of a successful Project Office Implementation. Note: To maximize the effectiveness
of this class spend some time thinking about these topics in regard to current
state of project management in your organization. Be prepared for an interactive
learning experience.
